The Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG) at Emory University offers gifted students in grades 6-12 a commuter-friendly program with diverse courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, fostering academic, social, and emotional growth. The program provides instruction in over 60 exciting and challenging multi-curricular, arts, and recreational courses, with a proprietary STEAM+ curriculum that emphasizes applying creative thinking across multiple disciplines. Students engage in problem-based learning, working collaboratively to find innovative solutions to real-world challenges, and developing strong research and creative problem-solving skills vital for college and professional careers. The curriculum encourages students to explore their interests while introducing them to new and intriguing topics, allowing them to combine reasoning with imagination without the restraints of sticking to a single academic discipline. SIG aims to nurture students' social skills and natural talents through challenging academics combined with social, cultural, and recreational opportunities, fostering lifelong friendships among like-minded peers.
Students take classes during the day from approximately 8:45 AM to 4:00 PM with a lunch break, followed by recreation. Commuter students can also expand their campus experience by adding evening activities or Saturday options.
